Funeral services for David D. Johnson of Hartland, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, MN. Pastors Larry Griffin and Paul Muther will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery rural Freeborn, MN.
David died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at his home in Hartland. He was 58 years of age.
David was born January 22, 1960 in Freeborn, County the son of Delmer and Sylvia (Kiester) Johnson. He was a graduate of Freeborn High School. On September 25, 1992 he was united in marriage to Kristine Gekeler in Janesville, MN.
David had been employed for many years at E.F. Johnson in Waseca, MN, Hillyard in Owatonna, MN, was a dairy herdsman for Scott Janke and the Ladwig’s, worked in the hog barns for the Stenzels and most recently with WFS and CFS. He was involved in 4-H and supported his daughters projects, worked with the livestock committee, the dairy project and the dog project. His favorite spot was always in the dairy barn. He bought and showed livestock in the Dairy open class at the fair, supported the American Dairy Association, enjoyed going to tractor shows, hunting, fishing and trapping. He had a love for ice cream and in his younger years made many friends playing softball and bowling. David was well liked by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived by his wife Kristine of Hartland, MN, daughters Hailey Johnson (Matt Hunnicutt) of Hartland, MN, Presley Johnson (fiancé Brody Larson) of Albert Lea, MN, Aubrey Johnson of Hartland, MN, and son Cody Yard of Burnsville, MN. Also surviving are brothers Douglas (Charlene) Johnson of Marshalltown, IA, James Johnson of Hartland, MN, Dale Johnson of Hartland, MN, one sister Rosalyn (Bill) Voight of Maplewood, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Lois Gekeler, sister-in-law Julaine Johnson, and nephews Joseph Voight and Zackary Gekeler.
