Marlys A. Sunde, age 85 of Waseca, died on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Born on February 14, 1932 in Bixby, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Hanson) Nelson. She attended Bixby Country School and Blooming Prairie High School before graduating from Owatonna High School in 1950. On October 14, 1950, she married LuVern “Bud” Sunde at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. After doing in-home daycare when her children were young, Marlys worked at Hammer’s Fashion Center in Waseca. She later worked for several years at the Waseca Clinic. In retirement, Marlys enjoyed working at the Waseca Senior Center. Marlys enjoyed travelling and road trips with her husband, going to thrift shops and garage sales, gardening, walking and biking, taking grandkids to the park, attending grandchildren’s activities, and an occasional outing to the casino. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.
Marlys is survived by three children, Lynn Gostomczik (Frank Duenes) of Janesville, Gail Orcutt (Joe Nechanicky) of Eagle Lake, Reid (Theresa) Sunde of Waseca; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Norma Peterson of Albert Lea; one sister-in-law, Idella Nelson of Ellendale; and several nieces and nephews. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Roger Nelson; son-in-law, Patrick Orcutt; sister-in-law, Marilynn (Harold) Nelson; and brother-in-law, Verle Peterson.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. and continue on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Kristi Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Le Sueur River Lutheran Cemetery in Waseca County. dennisfuneralhomes.com
