Marcelene M. “Mish” Mortenson, age 82, of New Richland, MN, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home Wells, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Vern Harris will officiate. Burial will take place in Rosehill Cemetery, Wells, Faribault County, Minnesota at a later date.
Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marcelene was born July 27, 1928 in Wells, MN the daughter of Charles and Anna (Drager) Martin. On June 27, 1948 she married Louie Mortenson in Austin, MN. Marcelene was very creative and crafty. She embroidered, sewed, quilted and knitted wonderfully, and has made many blankets. She loved to bake, having made many wedding cakes, and was known by her family as the “World’s Greatest Cook.” She was a tidy person who loved to travel, especially to Arizona and Las Vegas. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and her cats.
Marcelene is survived by her husband Louie of New Richland; children: Anna Kathy (Butch) Kern of Madison Lake, MN; Louanna Mortenson-Pederson of Albert Lea, MN; Candy (Bob) Mortenson-Klimpel of Mankato, MN; Marcy (John) Mortenson-Thisius of rural Wells, MN; Louie, Jr. (Penny) Mortenson; Robert (Lisa) Mortenson; and Donny (Holly) Mortenson, all of rural New Richland, MN; grandchildren: Collete (Brian), Dustin (Danielle), Nicholas (Lisa), Emmylou (Bob), Lacey (Jason), Rachel, Melanie, Sarah (Eric), Lindsey (Cory), Kirsten, Louie Weston, Cody, Ashley, Chantae, Marissa and Sadie Marie; great-grandchildren: Carlie, Jaden, Davis, Dreya, Aleesha, Dominick, Jaxon, Macy, Annabelle, Ethan, Connor, Lydia, Bella, Tristen, Amelia, Abigail, and Emma who is due in April. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Bernice, Gladys, Irene, Dorothy, Gordon, Roy and Margaret.
