Arlene died Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, where she had been for nearly two weeks.

Arlene was born February 7, 1926 in rural Steele County to Martin and Mollie Wiek. She was baptized and confirmed in Aurora Lutheran Church in Havana Township near Owatonna. In 1943, she graduated from Owatonna High School. On July 2, 1943 she married James Christenson of New Richland, Minnesota, where they farmed for many years. Following Jim’s later employment with IBM, she settled permanently with her family in Kasson.

Arlene, 90, of Kasson, was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and its Mary Circle since 1960. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and baking her famous pastries. Her love for the Minnesota Twins was only exceeded by the love for her family. Highlights of her life include: a trip to Norway, time spent in Florida, and family camping and fishing trips up north and out west. Arlene had a passion for conversation and coffee time with friends and family.

Survivors include a son James Jr. (Carol) of Duluth; three daughters, Carol (Jerry) Boyd and Mary Ann (James) Heiserman of Kasson and Joyce (Lenny) Jenson of Hayfield, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Hilda Christenson of Cambridge, Minnesota. Her husband, one daughter (Jean Ann) and three siblings (Leila, Bud, and June) preceded her in death.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Fairview Care Center for their compassion and exceptional care. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.
