Jonathan W. Schlaak, age 44 of the Padua area, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the home of his parents from complications of diabetes, which he dealt with since age seven.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake with Rev. Philip Beyersdorf officiating. Family interment service will be held at a later time.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Jonathan Wayne Schlaak was born on November 26, 1971 to Wayne and Nancy (Poock) Schlaak in Waseca, Minnesota. He attended elementary school at Peace Lutheran School, 9th grade at Bethlehem Academy, and then senior high all in Fairbault. He graduated from Fairbault High School in 1990. Jon went on to Alexandria Technical College to work on small engines and later on went to Ridgewater College in Willmar for welding. Jon had many interests and dreams. He loved music and was involved in bands with friends since age 15. He enjoyed spending time on the road on his motorcycle as well. Jon also liked to “farm” and would spend some of his time selling vegetables at farmer’s markets in the area. He worked various jobs, with his last one being an owner/manager of Highway 71 Liquor Belgrade until his struggle with diabetes prevented him from going.

Jonathan was much like his grandpa, Art Poock, from his gentle, generous soul to his balding head with the attitude, “I’m fine – don’t worry about me.” God bless the memories of Jon W. Schlaak.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake.

Jonathan will be deeply missed by his parents, Wayne and Nancy (Poock) Schlaak; brothers, Timothy (Jennifer) Schlaak of Dundas, and Robert  Schlaak (Jodie Rud) of Northfield ; nephews, Jackson, Treyton, and Kaedon Schlaak; nieces, Kailey Schlaak, Evelyn and Anna Jordan; aunts and uncles, David Poock of Villard, Kathleen (Craig) Schuster of Faribault, Donald (JoAnn) Schlaak of Waseca, and Edward Schlaak of Morristown; cousins and many friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Schlaak on October 27, 2015; grandparents, Earl and Freida Schlaak and Arthur and Louise Poock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
