Herbert Gottschalk, age 93, of Janesville passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Janesville Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Pastor Paul Muther officiating. Interment will be at the Janesville Cemetery with a meal to follow at church.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday.

Arrangements are being completed by Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville.

Herbert Carl, son of August and Marie (Rudolph) Gottschalk, was born on October 20, 1922 at home in Alton Township. He attended country school. Following his schooling, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945-1946. Following his service, he continued his lifelong farming career. Along with farming, he operated a road grader and snow plow and was employed as a carpenter. He also worked at Bird’s Eye and ASC for a number of years. On December 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Yahnke at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. Herb enjoyed hunting, cutting wood, playing cards, and gardening.

Herb is survived by his children, Carolyn (Daryl) Kohlhoff of Baraboo, WI, Joyce (Patrick) Wondra of Pennington, MN, Diane (Lyle) Schlaak of New Richland, Gary (Kay) Gottschalk of Janesville and Ronald Gottschalk of Apple Valley; his grandchildren, Jessica (David) Kohlhoff, Stephanie (Nathan) Huff, Melissa (Tom) Haack, Kari (Lee) Rettig, Kyle (Lisa) Schlaak, Katie (Gabe) Waddell, Kayla Schlaak, Jeff Gottschalk, and Hannah Mitskog; his twenty three great grandchildren; his brother, Loren Gottschalk of Janesville; sister, Lois Gossman of Alma City; several nieces and nephews; and by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; sisters, Edna and Irma; and by his brother, Clifford.
