Remembering the life of Clarine “Kay” M. Nelson…
Funeral Services for Clarine “Kay” Nelson, of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, at the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Reverend Richard Sliper will officiate. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Ellendale, and one hour before the service at the church.
Kay died on Tuesday, January 19, 1916, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. She was 89.
She was born on October 8, 1926, in Emmons, Minnesota the daughter of Knut and Clara (Juveland) Hovland. She graduated from Emmons High School and completed Naeve Nurses Training.
She was united in marriage to Gilmore Nelson on October 24, 1953, at the Lime Creek Lutheran Church.Together they made their home in Ellendale for more than 50 years.
Kay was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale where she was active in Mission Circle, Ladies Aid and Altar Guild.
Kay had been a nurse in Albert Lea, Minneapolis and St. Peter, before she worked at the Ellendale Post Office for 25 years.
She enjoyed bowling, card club, sewing, reading, bingo, quilting, ceramics and in earlier years, had served as a cub scout leader.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband Gil of Ellendale, children Brenda (Randy) Dokken of Albert Lea, Sheila White of Ellendale and Gary (Deb) Nelson of Clara City, MN; grandchildren: Herb (Lori) Moon, Tiffany (Josh) Krueger, Joe (Mandy) Moon, Holly (Joe) Bates, Brock (Heather) Nelson, Geoffrey Nelson, and Johnny White; great grandchildren: Meaghan, Maddie, Ava, Jayda, Owen, Ashton, Mikala, Greyson and Addie Jo; sister Mavis Bartsch of Geneva, MN, and sister-in-law Dorothy Towne of Emmons, MN, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold and Hilda Nelson, brother Ervin Hovland, son-in-law Gregory White, brothers-in-law Clayton and his wife Audrienne Nelson, Lloyd and his wife Bernice Nelson, Donald Bartsch and Earl Towne.
