Shirley M. Frederick, age 85, of Waseca passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Gregory Leif officiating. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, with the rosary being said at 3:45 p.m. and a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday for one hour prior to services at the church.
Shirley Mae, daughter of Frank and Nora (Daby) Lunkenhiemer, was born on August 23, 1930, in Mankato, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm and attended country school near Eagle Lake. On August 16, 1951, she was united in marriage to Edward C. Frederick at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Mankato. During their 65 years of marriage, Shirley worked as a homemaker caring for their five children. Family was the most important thing to her. Along with being a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, she also was a chauffeur, cheerleader, schedule juggler, and confidant.Shirley enjoyed being active in her community. She was an FFA and 4-H leader, dedicated time to the Waseca Arts Council, was a member of Catholic Daughters, and volunteered at Farmamerica and the University of Minnesota-Waseca for many years.
In her spare time, Shirley loved to travel and camp with the family. She also enjoyed going to the casino and bowling. She looked forward to every Monday when she and her bowling friends spent time together.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, children, Diane (Randy) Fox of New Richland, Donald (Sandra) Frederick of Eagan, Ken Frederick of Mankato, and Karen (Mark) Swenson of Owatonna; grandchildren Jerrod Treangen, Brian Labs, Justin (Amanda) Labs, Chris Labs, Katherine (Pete) VonDeLinde, Mandi (Mike) Triemert, Michael Swenson, and Mallori Swenson; great-grandchildren Tucker Labs, Piper Labs, and Eero VonDeLinde; sister, Betty Bisch of Madison Lake, and by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Bonni Treangen.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Sacred Heart Church of Waseca or Farmamerica.
