Margaret Ann Crumb passed away at home with her husband and four children by her side on January 7, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. at the age of 83.

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband, Bill of 64 years. Bill married his dear, Maggie on June 26th, 1951, on Margaret’s 19th birthday at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea, MN.

Margaret is lovingly remembered by children, Christine (Tom) Meyer of St. Paul, MN, Dennis of Duluth, MN, Rex (Collette) of Mahtomedi, MN and Rebecca (Jeff) Crumb-Johnson of Washburn, WI. She is survived by her grandchildren, Nick and Anne Meyer, Jake, Mackenzie and Will Crumb and Ida and Seth Johnson. She is also survived by her sister Marie Hall in Kanawah, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was born in Kanawah, Iowa in 1932 to Gerhard and Grace Smidt. She graduated from New Richland High school in 1949 where she met her husband-to-be at the graduation class picnic.

Margaret had many jobs throughout her working years including telephone operator, working as a farmer’s wife, running a family owned hardware store, school cook, nursing home housekeeper, A and W carhop and caring for an elderly women in her home. Margaret once said Bill’s job was their bread and butter, but her jobs were the jam.

Margaret enjoyed reading, Sudoku, cross word puzzles and was a wonderful cook. She was a wicked 500 player and took joy in teaching the game to her children and grandchildren. Margaret’s pride was in her children and grandchildren and one of her greatest accomplishments was seeing all of her children graduate from college.

Margaret is preceded in death by parents, Gerhart and Grace. Margaret lost her mother at the age of 13 and missed her mother daily for the rest of her life. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Hensman (Bud) Smidt and Aldric (Ole) Smidt. Ole and Margaret developed a strong connection after their mother’s death and his early death was very difficult for her. She also is preceded in death by her nephews Marc Smidt, Spurgeon Smidt and Steve Hall.

The husband and children of Margaret would like to thank the staff of Regional Hospice in Ashland, Langford Pharmacy in Washburn, Living Life Home Health and Memorial Medical Center in Ashland for their support and care.
