Joanie passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea. She was 77 years old.
Joan K. (Munsch) Baynes was born on July 21, 1936 to Merlyn and Ruth (Strand) Munsch in Waldorf, MN. Joanie graduated from Waldorf High School and moved to New Richland where she fell in love with Thomas F. Baynes. They were married on November 24, 1956 and their lives were blessed with six children in seven years. Her family was the light of her life. Joanie loved living in New Richland and was very proud of her town. Everywhere she went, she carried her contagious laugh and bright smile with her. She was a friend to everyone she met and especially treasured children, always having a treat or a dollar bill for her favorite kids. She was a very social person, and was at her happiest when she was around other people. Playing cards, reading, bowling, golf and watching the Twins were some of her favorite things to do. She was a big baseball fan, often being the “cheerleader behind home plate” for her sons’ baseball games. Joanie was a fabulous cook and planning holiday meals brought her great joy. She loved a full house and her front door was always open.
Joanie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Baynes; son, Michael Baynes; and a granddaughter, Brianne Baynes. Those left to cherish Joan’s memory are her children, Dan Baynes, of New Richland, Joe (Lisa) Baynes, of Prescott, AZ, Terry (Karen) Baynes, of Kiester, MN, John (Karen Spruth) Baynes of Minneapolis, MN and Kathleen (Jay Meehl) Baynes of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan and Faith Baynes, Jimmy and Lindsay Frey; siblings, Bonnie (Don) Root, of New Richland and Denise (Brian) Esser, of Minnesota Lake, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family would also like to include a special thank you to Debbie Beyer.
