Marvin D. Manthe, age 92 of Pemberton, died on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Pathstone Way in Mankato.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 14 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City, with Rev. Keith Bilitz, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Alma City Cemetery.
The Manthe Family will greet friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the hour of services at church. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville is handling arrangements.
Marvin Duane was born on June 8, 1921 in Mankato, Minnesota to Carl and Erna (Doss) Manthe. He graduated from Pemberton High School in 1939, and went on to attend Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and Mankato Vocational Technical School. On September 25, 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during WWII, and was honorably discharged on June 20, 1947. After returning home from service, Marvin started farming with his brothers on the family farm. On September 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lois Merrelin Boettcher at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. After their marriage Marvin and Lois raised their family on their rural Pemberton farm and resided there until moving to Mankato in 2011. During his farming career he was hired by the U.S. Government in 1959 as a rural letter carrier, and served the Pemberton, Hartland and Janesville communities, retiring in 1985. He was a longtime member of the NARFE and the Rural Letter Carriers Assn. Marvin was also a lifetime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City and the American Legion Post #475 of St. Clair. Marvin enjoyed gardening (achieving the distinction of Master Gardener), traveling, and coffee with his friends at the Pemberton Motor Mart. He cherished time spent with his family.He is survived by his wife Lois of North Mankato; children, Michael Manthe of Waldorf, Michele Eichhorst of Rochester, Mitchell Manthe of Elko, Marvin Jr. (Robin) Manthe of Minneapolis, Matthew (Linda) Manthe of Manitowoc, WI, Myron Manthe of Lawrenceville, GA, Merrelin (Bob) Chester of North Mankato, and Maynard (Lisa) Manthe of Mankato; sister, Lola Behrens of Alexandria, VA.; by 24 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Earl and Elmer Manthe; grandson, Andrew Wolter; daughters-in-law, Ruth Manthe and Laurie Manthe; by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
