Anna Alice Schwartz, 102, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House.
Anna was born June 12, 1910 in Steele County, Minnesota the daughter of Jay and Mary (Pavek) Spinler. She attended Saco 2135 country school through the 8th grade. She stayed on the farm helping her parents. Anna was united in marriage to Philip Schwartz on May 16, 1928 in Owatonna. The couple briefly lived in Owatonna and later farmed in Somerset Township for many years raising chickens and selling eggs, pigs, corn and oats. She enjoyed the farm and spending time outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed baking for her family especially cookies, cakes, pies, kolache and donuts. Preparing home cooked meals also was important to Anna. Anna liked to crochet, doing embroidery and making flour sack dish towels. She also made pillows from goose down feathers. Philip died January 7, 2000. Anna and Philip were both members of ZCBJ.
She is survived by her seven grandchildren Cheri (and Jimmy) Clark of Rockport, TX; LuAnn (and William) Smith of Cottage Grove, OR; Sharon (and Paul) Anderson of Springfield, OR; Wanda (and Kevin) KeWatt of Medford; Larry (and Teresa) Schwartz of Owatonna; Les (and Bridget) Schwartz of Owatonna; Craig (and Mary Jo) Schwartz of Owatonna; 17 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Schwartz (2000), her parents, a son Clarence Schwartz (2000), a daughter-in-law Betty Schwartz (2008), five sisters, seven brothers and a step-sister.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend John Sauer officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna Home Care and Hospice.
