Mary A. Spinler, 87, of Owatonna passed away on Dec. 31, 2012 at the Owatonna Hospital.
Mary was born on Oct. 15, 1925 to Edward and Agnes (Rajnet) Rysavy near Bixby in Blooming Prairie Township. She attended rural school district #64 and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1943. Prior to marriage she did clerical work for Jostens. On July 9, 1947 she married Justin Spinler at Holy Trinity Church, Litomysl. Following marriage, they settled on a dairy farm in Summit Township; Mary enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and raising her own family.
She was a charter member of the Better Homemakers Extension Club and remained a member to the present. Mary was a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Guild of Holy Trinity Church and served as the secretary of the parish CCW and the Owatonna-Waseca Area CCW. She was a lector and a Eucharistic minister and ministered to the homebound. Mary was also a member of the Holy Trinity Choir and sang with the Ecumenical Choir of Blooming Prairie for several years. Mary was also a member of the Catholic Workman Lodge and Western Fraternal Life Assn. She enjoyed being a seamstress; doing quilting and knitting. She also enjoyed cake baking and decorating; gardening and flowers; bird watching and feeding. Mary and Justin enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and made many trips to the Czech Republic to visit cousins. She was proud of her Czech heritage and enjoyed translating the language for others.Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Terry) Prokopec of Owatonna; her three sons, Gordon (Alice) Spinler of Bixby; Kevin (Jo) Spinler of Owatonna; Galen (Sally) Spinler of Clarks Grove; her daughter-in-law, Dottie Spinler of Ankeny, IA; her 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Victor Rysavy of Owatonna; Otto ( Jeanette) Rysavy of Owatonna Albert Rysavy of Mpls; a sister, Millie Pester of Rudyard, MT; brother-in-law, Fr. Ruben Spinler of Rose Creek, MN; brother-in-law, Stan Jeppesen of CA; sister-in-law, Theodora Jirele of Owatonna and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Justin Spinler; son, Gene Spinler; daughter-in-law, Joyce Spinler; son-in-law, Mike Granowski and 4 infants.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3rd at the Brick-Meger Funeral home with the rosary being recited at 3:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan 4th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Litomysl, with the Reverend Michael Cronin officiating. An hour of visitation will precede the funeral at church. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Trinity Church, St. Isidore’s School, or the Owatonna Homestead Hospice House. Arrangements completed with the Brick-Meger Funeral Home.
