Resident feels S. Broadway traffic too fast

How fast is too fast to drive on South Broadway Ave. in New Richland?

The question was brought before the New Richland City Council at its first meeting of the month Monday, Aug. 12 at City Hall. All council members were there, as were police chief Tony Martens and ambulance crew member Monica Schutrop, along with visitors Sharon Eckart, Larry Goehring and Pam Goehring.

Mayor Mike Shurson reminded Eckart she had only three minutes to speak before she made her plea to lower the speed limit.

“I’m here to request the speed limit on South Broadway be reduced to 20 mph,” said Eckart. “I’m concerned for the children. I counted 12 kids in a block and a half there, and I’d hate to see anything happen to them. I feel 30 mph is just too fast.”

The council will take it into consideration.

The council did some major moving of funds, passing two resolutions.

Ellendale to investigate water tower

What’s exactly happening on top of the water tower in Ellendale?

They plan to find out.

According to Radio Link Internet owner Dan Petsinger, a visitor at the Aug. 8 city council meeting, some of the equipment atop the tower is still in use despite the council’s belief that it is not.

“I have pictures of everything on top of the tower,” said Petsinger. “I wanted to make sure the council takes a look at this because they’ve been up there a long time without a lease (with the city).”

Petsinger’s primary purpose for attending was to address an issue brought up at a previous meeting: Radio Link currently does not have a written contract with Ellendale, and the city’s wireless computers have been experiencing very slow speeds.

Petsinger spoke to only two councilmen and the mayor, as two council members were absent. Keith Langlie was also a visitor.

The Ellendale Fire Department will host dinner, auction and drawings Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. at the fire hall.

The menu includes pulled pork, Firehouse beans and cole slaw for a free-will donation. Live auction starts at 6:30.
