A house fire may deem the house at 402 2nd St. SE in New Richland a total loss. The fire was reported by the home owner, Brandon Osborne, at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported. At the time of reporting the home owner and his dog were sitting safely in their vehicle.
“It was your typical house fire,” New Richland Fire Chief Josh Moen reported on the scene. “It was bad enough. It won’t be livable for right now."
New Richland and Waseca Fire Department and emergency responders were on scene and needed only about an hour to extinguish the fire, which appears to have started in the main living area before going into the attic. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to one area of the home.
“What happened was it [the fire] got up into the attic, and then the whole ceiling dropped down,” Moen explained. “So pretty much what they put out was the rest of the ceiling remnants and insulation, lath and plaster. Once they got that extinguished and kind of pulled apart, then we knocked the window. And then they used their hoses to blow water out.
“I'm glad the homeowner called as quick as he did,” Moen stated. “You know, timing's never on your side when it comes to fire. So, they got in and went to work and kept it contained in this area."
The Fire Marshall did an investigation Thursday and news of their findings could not be reported prior to publication.
