“Be everything to you, not everything to everybody.”
“Positive Mind, Positive Vibes, Positive Life.”
“Don't ever doubt your worth.”
These uplifting slogans were made into signs and posted around the secondary school by a sophomore health class taught by NRHEG health and phy ed teacher Onika Peterson. The 10th-grade class wanted to get out positive reminders to students that it is their responsibility to have a good, positive day.
The project was an extra credit assignment for a chapter on Self-Esteem and Self Worth. Class members Keira Lenort and Erin Petersonboth took part. “I chose my quote because, when something goes wrong, people tend to follow with a poor mood. I found this quote on the internet while searching for inspiration for this project. I think it relates to the needs of others because almost everyone can attest to the fact that they have felt down on themselves after a minor mistake. I liked this project because it has a calming and positive effect, and can lift others up in the process.”
Sophomore Erin Peterson commented, “A couple years ago, I had gone through kind of a rough time and had almost lost some of my best relationships with my friends. At the time I feel like I was kind of doubting my worth and how good of friends I deserved. Gratefully, I regained my friends’ trust and relationships back. When I was scrolling through all of the quotes, I knew which one was for this project: “Don’t ever doubt your worth.” It helped make me think not only about the people in our school, but also about the people in our society and community. There are people struggling every day because they don’t think that they belong in this world. Every single person has worth and deserves to be here. Those who are struggling need to know that they have worth and that people care about them no matter what. I really liked scrolling through all of the inspirational/self-esteem booster quotes and finding my favorite. It not only helped me think about how these could affect so many people, but also about how it can affect me and how I can relate to some of them. I also really liked seeing all of the quotes that other people chose and asking them about how those quotes were important to them.” Always remember it's okay to lift other people's self-esteem and self worth.
