The NRHEG senior class has elected its homecoming court in preparation for a modified homecoming celebration, set to bring together students and fans on Thursday, November 12, with a 7 p.m. game against Norwood Young America.
There is much more than the surprisingly late date of this year’s homecoming observance which is somewhat out of the ordinary. NRHEG Student Council advisor Barb Roesler has worked with student leaders and school athletic director Dan Stork to find events which are permissible under current social distancing expectations.
Candidates for homecoming queen are Hanna Crabtree, Avery Hill, Kendall Johnson, Cambria Nissen, Lorelei Strom, and Grace Tufte. Vying to be king are Riley Chicos, Ashton Johnson, Daniel Nydegger, Caden Riewer, Thor Routh, and Kordell Schlaak. The prince and princess, chosen at random from among the kindergarten class, are Cale Klukow and Makenna Misgen.
The coronation for homecoming will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 in the high school gymnasium. This event is not open to the public. Coronation will be live streamed on Youtube and tickets will allocated to students for their families.
Dress-up days are set for Thursday and Friday Nov. 5 and 6, and again on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 9 and 10. One pair of days (They have been arranged in twos because different sets of students are physically present in school on different days.) will be devoted to “class colors.” The dress up days will be as follows: 6th grade: red; 7th grade, camo; 8th grade, orange; 9th grade, black; 10th grade, gray; 11th grade jersey; 12th grade, white.
The other days will ask students to wear panther-themed clothing.
Since the traditional pep fest and parade are not permissible, a set of small-scale bean bag (also known as corn hole) tournaments will be scheduled at various times across the dress-up days. Members of the homecoming court will also visit, in small numbers, with elementary students.
Mrs. Roesler explains that some plans are still being finalized, so students should watch for posters and communications which provide details and more information. Community members can find more information on the school website.
The tentative schedule includes
Thursday & Friday, Nov. 5 & 6: Class color dress-up days
Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 9 & 10: Panther apparel & Homecoming shirt dress-up days AND small-scale bean bag tournaments throughout day. Homecoming court visiting elementary students in small groups.
Thursday, Nov. 12: (No school) 7 p.m. Homecoming Football game (tickets needed)
Saturday, Nov. 21: 7 p.m. Coronation ceremony in the high school gymnasium.
