The cancellation of the in-school year for 2020 does not mean the cancellation of awards.

This year’s band award winners have been announced. A total of three awards were awarded to two individuals, Jayna Domeier and Maggie Maloney.

The winner of the Louis Armstrong Award for Jazz Band is Jayna Domeier.

According to Miles Ostot, the Band teacher at NRHEG high school, “Jayna is also a phenomenal musician who is eager to learn and engage more in music. In Jazz Band she was always one of the first people to volunteer for improv solos and that helped her to improve on the trumpet and as a musician.”

The award for Concert Band, the John Phillip Sousa award, was awarded to Maggie Maloney.

Otstot commented on the award winner, “Maggie is a phenomenal musician whose leadership and playing ability has benefitted the band immensely. It has been fun for me to watch her challenge herself, struggle, persevere and succeed in music. This perseverance and leading by example, along with a dedication to excellence, is why Maggie is being honored with the John Phillip Sousa Award.”

The final announcement is for the Band Boosters Scholarship. This Scholarship was also awarded to Domeier. “Jayna and Maggie are two of an outstanding senior class of musicians, making the decisions very difficult,” said Otstot. “I am excited to be able to honor them with these awards and wish all of the seniors good luck in their future endeavors.”
