The Patterson Brothers lived in Ellendale for more than 50 years.
They were learned and capable men who came to our area in pursuit of a dream — gold. When that dream didn’t produce the desired results, they lived out their lives in quiet obscurity and for lack of funds were buried without a marker in Forest Hills Cemetery in Owatonna. Their story is a part of the community and the Ellendale Area Heritage Society is working to preserve it. This year the history tour, to be held in the park during Ellendale Days, will include their full story.
A few weeks ago, we began soliciting funds for the cemetery marker, but would also like to pinpoint the area of the former goldmine, located about a mile east and half mile north from Ellendale, with an appropriate sign. It would be placed beside the road.
If you would be willing to contribute to our project, contact any of our E.A.H.S. members.
Thank you.
