The Ellendale Area Heritage Society has become aware that the Patterson Bros. graves have no grave marker of any kind. The Sexton does have a directory to locate the site, but that’s it. We would like to place a marker, as pictured above, to mark the spot. The brothers are side by side, so one stone will suffice; it will cost $800. Would you help us?
Morris and Wallace came to our area in 1893 under the direction of a prognosticator in Philadelphia, who foretold that gold could be found at the designated place. They spent their entire lives, education and talent, even to the exclusion of families and world comforts, to find that elusive gold.
This coming Ellendale Days, during our History Tour to be held June 29, this gold mine story in its entirety will be one of three stories we will tell. Mark that day on your calendar and find out the whole story of Ellendale’s goldmine, at Ellendale Days, June 29 in the park starting at 12:30.
Please consider contributing to this project. Donations can be sent to Barbara Mrotz, P.O .Box 255, Ellendale, MN 56026, or to any of our members.
