New Richland’s annual community-wide celebration, Farm & City Days, is set for this weekend, July 7-10.
It begins Thursday, with the Little Miss/Mr. City/Country Pagaent at City Hall starting at 5 p.m.
Friday’s festivities include the NR Lions’ potato bake/root beer floats from 4:30-6:30 at City Hall, a beanbag tournament at NR Liquor at 7 p.m. (signup at 6:30) and, for the second year in a row, Family Feud at 7 p.m. on N. Broadway Ave. in front of the Star Eagle office. The movie, “Little Giants” will be shown at City Park at 9:45.
Things really get rolling Saturday, starting with the 7 a.m. pancake breakfast at the NR Fire Hall. Admission is $8, or $4 with a Farm & City Days button, which must be purchased prior to the breakfast. Jim Kozan will again provide entertainment and the grand marshal of the parade will be announced at 8 a.m. Last year’s grand marshals were Wayne and Merlys Wenzel.
Many other events are set for Saturday and Sunday, including old favorites like the car show, 5K run/walk, kiddie parade, flower show, craft and vendor fair, softball, volleyball and golf tournaments, and some new ones, including antique appraisal, extreme kickball and Gopher State Garden Tractor Pull.
See the full schedule on Pages 8 and 9.
The highlight of the weekend, the annual Farm & City Days parade, will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday. Check-in starts at 3 on SW 1st St. near Morgan’s Meat Market. The parade route has been changed. The old route had the parade turning west on Division St. The new route will see it go one block farther south on Broadway Ave., then turning right, or west, on 1st St. SW by Wagner Foods.
Community worship at the park is set for 10:30 Sunday morning.
Farm & City Days buttons, which grant free admission to Saturday night’s street dance in addition to a discount Saturday morning breakfast, cost $5 and are available at most New Richland businesses.
