Farm & City Days
Buttons for New Richland’s Farm & City Days are currently on sale at local businesses.
This year’s button features a picture of the old New Richland City Hall and Fire Department, year unknown, from the NR Area Historical Society’s postcard collection.
Besides having a great souvenir to remember the weekend, button wearers will also enjoy the following:
• Discount for Saturday breakfast sponsored by NR Fire Dept.
• Free admission to Saturday night’s street dance featuring Cherry Gun, back by popular demand
• A chance to win cash prizes (to be announced following Sunday worship service)
• A chance to support Farm & City Days
Please note, buttons will not be sold at the Saturday breakfast.
The medallion hunt is also underway, hidden somewhere on public property. If you find the medallion, turn it in to the Star Eagle office and collect your winnings at city hall.
The first clue:
Let’s talk numbers...2,4,6 but let’s not forget 3! We need to plan when we build or place something because not everything is placed where it is by Mother Nature.
But if we add those numbers together we get 15... the center date of this week. So that must be a good sign that this year the medallion is tucked in a good spot.
This is the beginning of the hunt so let’s have some fun. Remember to keep yourself grounded and think about your roots. Start at the center of town and take a walk, enjoy the things of nature around you and the things built by those who were here first, even some new things!
New this year, The Friends of the New Richland Public Library are sponsoring an antique appraisal event Saturday, July 9 from 2-4 at NR City Hall.
Carole and Jerry Bode have 40 years of antique experience, most recently owning Cherry Lane Antiques in New Ulm. Following some opening remarks about collecting, they will appraise 30-40 items. They don't do precious gems or guns. To secure an appraisal, call 507-456-7349. The cost per appraisal is $5. Sign up early as there is a lot of interest expected. Donations will be taken at the door for enjoying this educational and fun afternoon. The purpose of the Friends of the Library is to support activities in the library both financially and in volunteering. Memberships will be available. Ice cream treats will also be for sale. It is hoped this event will spark lots of interest.
Another new event is the Gopher State Garden Tractor Pullers at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 11.
The 2nd Annual Press on for Preston Run is Saturday at 8 a.m.
The parade is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, July 10.
