After grand march at high school, prom-goers to set sail on riverboat

What’s more exciting than a boat ride?

A cruise down the St. Croix River on a paddlewheel riverboat.

For the second time in school history, that’s where NRHEG prom-goers are headed for the annual spring gala set for Saturday, May 7.

Activities begin at 2 p.m. at New Richland Care Center, where prom-goers provide an unofficial promenade for the residents and pick up their tickets for prom. Check-in at the NRHEG High School Media Center begins at 2:15. Pictures with Brant Hemmingway Photography will be in high school commons at this time as well; order forms will be available at the New Richland school office.

The Grand March will be held in the high school gym at 3:30 and is open to the public. The junior class Prom Committee and their advisor, Terry Jensen, selected this year's theme and decorations with the help of Dan Nelson of Ellendale. Attendees and spectators alike can expect to be wowed by the efforts of this talented group.

At 5 p.m., the prom-goers and chaperones will depart on coach busses from New Richland to Stillwater. Prom will be held on the St. Croix River aboard the paddlewheel riverboat, "Avalon." The boat cruise is from 7-11 p.m. and includes a buffet dinner and DJ dance.

Students requested that Nate Jensen serve as the DJ. Chaperones are Larry and Terry Jensen, David Bunn, Dan Nelson, Hillary and Caleb Hagen and Noris Hemingway. Brant Hemingway has also been asked to continue to take pictures throughout the night.

Next, the prom-goers will be bussed to Grand Slam in Burnsville where the After Prom Party is held from midnight to 3 a.m. Prom attendees can enjoy unlimited laser tag, trampoline, mini golf, bumper cars, and batting cages and will receive some tokens for arcade games. Late night snacks will also be provided.

Prom-goers will be bussed back to NRHEG High School for a light breakfast and prizes before they are dismissed.

Once again the NRHEG After Prom Party committee is thankful they were able to help provide an unforgettable evening for the students.

The theme for this year’s prom is being kept a secret until Saturday.
