A new year is upon us. It is time to look ahead with the prospect of a whole year to look forward to. Can we, or should we look back at the year just ending?
Like looking in a rear-view mirror, it is important to look twice before backing up to be sure there is nothing in the way. You can look back, but there is nothing to be done about mistakes made except to learn from them. It is time to look at all good things that 2015 gave us.
We all have much to offer, much to give, and deserve to receive in return. We’ve heard it many times: “Live each day as if it were your last,” but did you ever consider living each day of life for someone you love? Count your blessings; name them, one by one.
In the process of going through stacks and boxes of papers, trying to get a jump on things in regards to organizing things for tax returns, a number of “funeral folders” were located. Many people were lost. Have you ever thought, “I should have spent more time with them when they were living?”It is the way of life, of course, but it does give one cause to think. How many times have you said, “Oh, I was going to visit him/her this week,” but didn’t?
For many people, the year 2015 was a challenging or difficult one. Maybe it is time to wipe the tablet clean.
With the new year upon us and that thought in mind, it will soon be time to hold the annual Geneva Cancer Auction.
This year marks the 32nd year it has been held. Back in 2010 the Geneva cancer fundraising events reached the $1 million mark thanks to the many great people who donate, help, attend, and support the many fundraising events. How far are we in striving for another million?
The 2016 Geneva Cancer Auction gets underway at 7 on Friday night, Jan. 8 and will resume at 2 on Saturday, Jan. 9. The auction continues the weekend of Jan. 15 and 16.
Any and all donations are accepted. Sellable treasures, homemade goodies, and many other items can be dropped off the Geneva Bar & grill any time from now until the conclusion of the auction.
Whitey and LaJune Hagen once again plan to make their yearly trip to Rochester for the annual Eagles Cancer Telethon the weekend of Jan. 17-18. Whitey plans to present a check for all the money that was raised from the many cancer fundraising events in our area.
A motorcycle run was held in June, a golf event in August, the Wild Game Feed in December. Again a raffle is being held in conjunction with the cancer auction. The top prize is a 48” plasma HD TV with bluRay player, along with cash prizes of $500, $400, $300, $200, and $100.
2015 Geneva Cancer Auction T-Shirts and Sweatshirts, which are dark dray in color with gold lettering, are available for sale at Geneva Bar & Grill. The gold color represents childhood cancer, another area of concern for area families.
