Veteran photos sought

In observance of Veterans Day November 11, the NRHEG Star Eagle will publish a section dedicated to our defenders of freedom. Area veterans or family members are encouraged to bring in photos of veterans in uniform from all branches of service for inclusion and the recognition they so justly deserve. The deadline for photo submission is noon, November 7. School board candidate forum October 30

The public is invited to a meet-the-candidate forum on Thursday, Oct. 30 in the NRHEG High School Media Center. Candidates for the NRHEG School Board will be there.


Ellendale fall cleanup day set for Saturday

Healthy Seniors of Steele County offers services through a neighbor-to-neighbor program in Ellendale. We will be holding our Fall Clean-up on Saturday, October 25. This cleanup is possible through the support of the United Way. Volunteers are coordinated to help do the tasks seniors may need help with while living safely, happily, and independently in their own homes. Piltingsrud earns doctorate degree

The names of more than 950 graduates from the University of Kansas this summer — representing 47 Kansas counties, 41 other states and and 25 other countries — have been announced by the University Registrar. Melanie Piltingsrud, New Richland, earned her doctorate in Germanic languages and literatures. Melanie is a former staff member of the New Richland Star.


First Congregational Fall Bazaar Nov. 2

The First Congregational Church in New Richland will host its annual Fall Bazaar on Sunday, November 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. To be served are boneless pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, dinner rolls, bars and coffee; also available will be craft items, home baked goods, raffles, and once-used items. Cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children age 6-8, and free for children 5 and under.


Lutefisk dinner Nov. 2 at North Waseca Lutheran

North Waseca Lutheran Church Lutefisk Dinner  is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, at reserved times of 4, 5, or 6 pm. Menu includes lutefisk, lefse, delicious Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes & gravy, cole slaw, jelled cranberries, vegetables, rommegrot, Norwegian pastries, and beverages. NRHEG Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony Nov. 3

The NRHEG Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym in New Richland. 



Order discounted yearbooks by Nov. 7

An "early bird" discount of $10 is available to students who order their 2014-15 NRHEG yearbooks at the school between Oct. 13 and Nov. 7. Forms will be distributed and orders accepted during lunch in the lower commons. With the discount, purchase price for the yearbook is $45 plus tax; books ordered without the discount will cost $55 plus tax. Special features such as personalization cost extra. If students have questions or concerns, they should speak with the yearbook advisor, Mrs. Schumacher. Remember, yearbooks are full of messages and memories. What will yours be?


Cross of Glory Soup and Pie November 5

Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Hartland will hold their annual Soup and Pie Supper on Wednesday, November 5. It will begin at 4:30 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. They will be serving four delicious soups: Hobo, Potato Ham, Chicken Noodle, and Chili with fresh baked bread, pie, and dessert! Tickets will be: Adults $7, Children 4-10 $4, 3 and under free. It’s handicap accessible and donations will be accepted for the Area Food Shelf of New Richland.


Lynnes’ grandson participates in national pedal pull

Collin Houg of Northwood, Iowa won first place at the 25th Annual State Pedal Pull Championship September 6 in the boys’ 6-year-old class at the Coliseum in Marshalltown, Iowa. Over 9,000 girls and boys participated from over 200 sanctioned pedal pulls across Iowa. Houg qualified for the state pull by placing first in the 6-year-old class at Northwood’s Fourth of July celebration. He competed at the National Pedal Pull at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. Houg’s parents are Andy and Rebecca Houg of Northwood. His grandparents are Paul and Linda Lynne of Hartland and Herb and Patricia Houg of Glenville.
