Jim Clark open house set for Saturday

An open house Jim Clark, New Richland-Hartland football and baseball coach and teacher from 1961-65, will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at The Willows. Former students and athletes are invited to have lunch with Jim at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. At 1 p.m., there will be an open house for all who wish to greet Jim.

Hillbilly Harvest Hoedown Saturday

The Hillbilly Harvest Hoedown will be on Saturday, September 13 from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. by the New Richland City Hall. The Jerry Beauchamp Band will be playing. Cost to get in is $7 for individuals and $10 for couples. This event is a fundraiser for Farm and City Days.

ECFE magic show, registration Tuesday

NRHEG Early Childhood Family Education will kick off its Fall Session with a magic show Tuesday, September 16 at 6:30 in the Ellendale School gym. The event is free to all preschoolers and their families. Every preschooler attending will be given their own hard cover book. Registration materials will be available for the fall session. ECFE fall classes start on Monday, September 29 in New Richland and Tuesday, September 30 in Ellendale. All classes begin at 6:15 p.m. and will be held in the preschool rooms at each site. Cost of the fall aession is $10 per family.  For more information, please call 507-417-2667.

Conservation Tour set for Tuesday

The Waseca Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors are sponsoring a conservation tour on Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. The purpose of the tour is to update those in attendance on current conservation projects and programs in Waseca County. The tour will begin at the conservation office with rides provided. EGHS class of 1974 reunion September 20

The Ellendale-Geneva Hish School graduating class of 1974 will be hold its 40th class reunion Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Silver Star Saloon in Wabasha, MN. We will be meeting at 4 p.m., but feel free to come and enjoy the many things to see and do in Wabasha earlier.

Pet spay/neuter event set for September 20

On Saturday September 20 the Steele County Humane Society, in conjunction with MNSNAP, will be offering low-cost spay/neuter services for companion animals and free-roaming, community outdoor cats (feral cats). For more information and to find out if you qualify contact MNSNAP at mnsnap.org or call 612-720-8236. Space is limited so pre-register today. Churches adjust mass times starting Sept. 21

The Catholic churches in the area will have adjusted mass times beginning September 21. St. Aidan's in Ellendale will have mass at 8, All Saints in New Richland at 9:30, and St. Mary's outside Geneva at 11. There will no longer be a Saturday evening mass at any of these churches.

MCHS luncheon set for Sept. 24

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — Mayo Clinic Health System’s hospice program will hold its 14th Annual Volunteer Sloppy Joe and Salad Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at the American Legion, 142 N. Broadway, Albert Lea. Tickets are available for $7. All proceeds from the luncheon benefit hospice patients and their families. Owatonna Hospital blood drive Sept. 26

OWATONNA, Minn. — Area residents are invited to donate blood at Owatonna Hospital on Friday, Sept. 26. American Red Cross will be on site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Conference Rooms 1484, 1487, 1489 and volunteers from the hospital’s Auxiliary will help with registration. To donate, you must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more. MCHS offers scholarships

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea is offering scholarships to students currently enrolled in college or technical school and non-traditional students. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who have successfully completed at least one year at an accredited college or technical school. Students who live within Albert Lea’s service area, have a GPA of 3.0 or better, and a declared major in a health care field are eligible for the scholarships. Two $1,000 scholarships are also available for "non-traditional" students, defined as those who are pursuing post-secondary education five or more years after completing high school or receiving a GED. To be eligible, students must live within Albert Lea’s service area and plan an education in the health care field. Scholarships will be awarded primarily on the basis of commitment and leadership.
