Albert Lea Hospice annual run/walk Saturday
Albert Lea’s Hospice program, part of Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin, will hold its fourteenth annual 5-mile Run/Walk around Albert Lea’s Fountain Lake on Saturday, June 14. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds, with the run/walk from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The registration fee for participating is $20 and additional donations are welcome. The registration fee does include a T-shirt, but registrations are due by May 29 to guarantee a T-shirt and size. Registration/pledge forms can be picked up at the Hospice office, located on the Health Reach campus, 1705 S.E. Broadway; and the Cancer Center and front information desk inside the medical center’s main campus, 404 W. Fountain St.; KATE radio; Power 96 radio; and Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Alden, Kiester, New Richland and Wells, Minn., and Lake Mills, Iowa. ‘Bikes for Barker’ set for June 21
The 7th Annual “Bikes for Barker” Scholarship Fundraiser will be held Saturday, June 21 at the Armory, 410 Prospect Ave., Albert Lea. The fundraiser includes a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11:30 a.m., a 100-mile motorcycle run from the Armory to Lanesboro, Minn., and an 11-mile bicycle ride starting at the head of the Root River Trail in Fountain, Minn., to the City Park in Lanesboro. A donation of $5 is suggested for the breakfast, and registration is $20 per motorcycle and $10 per biking family. There will be a luncheon celebration at the City Park in Lanesboro afterward. A donation of $5 is suggested for the luncheon. A raffle, for $5 per ticket, will be held featuring prepaid Visa gift cards and other prizes. That afternoon there will be a free youth fishing contest with prizes. All money raised at this event goes toward the Garth Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund, which assists students pursuing careers in chemical dependency counseling. Trip to Plymouth Playhouse June 22
On Sunday, June 22, 2014 there will be a performance at 2 p.m. at the Plymouth Playhouse. The performance is The Church Basement Ladies in “The Last (Potluck) Supper.” Cost is $51 per person (paid in advance, no refunds). Checks are payable to Central Freeborn WELCA. The price includes: Coach bus – leaves 11 a.m. from behind Slumberland in Albert Lea; Reserved seats at performance; Buffet supper at KFC in Owatonna on the way back to Albert Lea if bus is full – 56 tickets per bus (otherwise supper will cost $7.25 per person). The 21st Annual Lutheran Night at the Twins is set for Monday, July 21. Cost is $45. Coach bus leaves at 4 p.m. from behind Slumberland in Albert Lea. Seats are home plate view, Section 315.
