NRCC luncheon, silent auction Saturday

The New Richland Care Center will hold a Luncheon and Silent Auction on Saturday, November 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m in the Care Center Activity/Chapel area. They will be serving Sloppy Joes, Potato Salad, Bars, and beverages/coffee. The cost will be $6. Bidding on the Silent Auction Baskets will begin in October and will end at 1 p.m. November 2. Proceeds will go to the New Richland Care Center Resident Council. 


EAHS to meet Saturday

The last meeting of the year for the Ellendale Area Heritage Society will be held November 2nd (no meeting in Dec.) at 9 a.m. in the Ellendale Community building. We’d be happy to have you come and learn more about what we do and why.  All interested people are welcome.


Early bird yearbook sales through Nov. 6

Early bird NRHEG yearbook sales for the 2013-14 school year runs through Wednesday, Nov. 6. Orders can be placed online at www.jostensyearbooks.com or order forms will be available during high school lunch in the lower commons. Cost is $45 plus tax. Checks can be written to Jostens.


‘Your healthiest holiday’ Monday at Health Reach

A free program, “Your healthiest holiday,” is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin’s Health Reach campus, 1705 SE Broadway, Albert Lea.

Celebrating the holidays can be challenging to anyone concerned with diet, more so if you are diabetic. Amy Pleimling, new registered dietitian, will share ideas on how to enjoy the holidays while keeping your waist line and diabetes under control. The program will cover:

• Goals of a healthy diet for diabetics

• Realistic healthy holiday goals for anyone

• Healthy holiday goals for diabetics

• Cooking and shopping tips that lead to better eating all season long

• How to understand food labels

NRHEG fall athletic awards No. 12

The annual NRHEG Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony will held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.


Sign up now for 'Christmas by the Lake'

F.R.O.G. of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church presents “Christmas by the Lake,” Saturday, Dec. 7 from 3-9 p.m. The price is $26 per person. Activities include: 

• 3 p.m. Coach bus leaves from behind Slumberland in Albert Lea. Destination Clear Lake, Iowa 3:45 p.m. 

• 3:45 p.m. Tour Christmas activities on Main Street

• 5 p.m. Watch the lighted Christmas parade

• 6 p.m. View the fireworks on the lake

• 6:30 p.m. Kentucky Fried Chicken buffet in Clear Lake

• 8:45 p.m. View Outdoor Nativity

• 9 p.m. Back at Slumberland

Position open for SWCD supervisor

Waseca Soil and Water Conservation District has an open position for a supervisor. This is an appointed position until the next general election in 2014. This is an opportunity for a citizen interested in natural resource conservation and improvement of our water quality to make a difference in our community’s future. This appointment will be filled by a resident of any one of the following three townships: Byron, Otisco, and New Richland.
