Karen L. Anderson, missionary to Chile, will talk about her work in Chile during worship services at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland Sunday, Aug. 4 at 9 a.m. After the worship service she will show a powerpoint presentation. Everyone is invited.
Bloodmobile to visit New Richland August 7
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at New Richland City Hall on Wednesday, August 7 from 1-6 p.m. For appointment or more information, call Mary at (507) 465-3734.
Fall sports meeting August 8
The annual fall sports meeting for parents and participants will be Thursday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m. at NRHEG High School in New Richland. All participants are required to attend. All fees and forms that are required to participate can be filled out and turned in at this meeting. Reminder that all participants must have a current sports qualifying physical on file at the school before you will be allowed to participate. Physicals are required every three years. Fall sports start dates are: JH/Varsity Cross Country, August 13; 9th, 10th and Varsity Volleyball, August 12; 9th, 10th and Varsity Football, August 12; Junior High Football, August 27; Junior High Volleyball, August 27.
Eustice Memorial golf tourney August 9
The 10th Annual Don Eustice Scholarships Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for August 9th, 11 a.m. at Lakeside Country Club in Waseca. There are raffle tickets (chance to win a flat screen TV, Laptop or $150 cash) for sale from any board member or during the day of the tournament. Not a golfer? There is a meal (outstanding burger bar by Torey’s) available after the tournament or around 4 p.m. if you wish to attend and be a part of the presentation and announcement of awards. There are prizes for early registration. The Don Eustice Scholarship was founded in 1979 and is in remembrance of fallen Waseca County Sheriff, Don Eustice. Community Education trip to Chanhassen August 10
NRHEG Community Education is sponsoring a trip to Chanhassen to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Saturday, August 10. This highly upbeat musical is based upon the familiar Bible story of Joseph found in Genesis Chapter 39. It is an enjoyable, secularized, modern-telling of the story suitable for all ages. A delicious meal is included in the cost. We will leave the Ellendale School at 9:20 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. The cost is $70 if registered by July 10, $80 after that date if seats are still available. Farmamerica to again host farm camp
Farmers, farm organizations, local agribusinesses and volunteers have joined together to organize and host the second annual “Farm Camp Minnesota” for youth. This event is open to youth entering grades 3-6. This one-day camp will be held twice, Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Farmamerica in Waseca. Cost is $10 per camper. Lunch and snacks are provided, and every camper will receive a T-shirt and fun bag. Space is limited. Registration will close July 31 or when full. Room remains on bus for trip to Twins game
There’s still room on the bus for Central Freeborn Lutheran Church’s 20th Annual Lutheran Night at the Twins set for Monday, August 12. Coach bus leaves at 4 p.m. from Slumberland in Albert Lea. Seats are in Section 315, behind home plate. One person per bus will be selected to go on the field to lead in singing the National Anthem. EHS Class of 1958 reunion August 24
An Ellendale High School Class Get Together is being planned for Saturday, August 24th, in Geneva, starting at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7. The EHS Class of 1958 is planning a reunion and inviting anyone attending Ellendale High School from 1955 to 1960 to join them. The event will be held at the Geneva Community Center and the cost is $17.50 per person, or $35 per couple. BYOB with party ice and cups furnished and food by George's. If you would like to attend the reunion, but not do dinner, just BYOB and come to the Geneva Comunity Center after 8. They would like to see one and all. As Al Batt aptly put it in his weekly Star Eagle column, "The older we get and the more people we lose, the tighter we cling to memories." Grief Support Series starts August 28
Mayo Clinic Health System’s Hospice department will offer a Grief Support Series beginning August 28 through October 2. The series will meet each Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Hospice office located at Health Reach Campus 1705 SE Broadway, Albert Lea, Minnesota. This mutual-help series provides emotional support and shares practical help within in a supportive environment to achieve a better understanding of the grief process.
