Leagues forming for youth, adult volleyball
Volleyball players wanted: as you may have read, the Girl Scouts will be refurbishing the volleyball court at Legion Field in New Richland as well as adding a second court. Now, Troop 23601 is sponsoring a teen co-ed volleyball league for grades 7-12. Teams need to be a minimum of four people. There can’t be more guys on the court than girls per team. Teams provide their own ball and a line judge. Team shirts or uniforms are optional. The league will be held Tuesday evenings from June 11 to July 30. Cost is $20 per team and sign up is due by June 4. To sign up or for more information, call (507) 456-0500.
An adult league is also being planned, organized by Kim Schlaak. She estimates the start of that league to be the week of June 10. To sign up your team or for more information, call Kim at (507) 461-2095.

NR Farmer’s Market meeting set for June 5
A meeting for anyone who would like to participate in a Farmer’s Market in New Richland is set for Wednesday, June 5 at 6 p.m. at NR City Hall. Items to discuss: day of the week, time, place to have the market, sign up and fees to participate for the season.
Ellendale Farmer’s Market opens June 1
The Ellendale Area Farmer's Market will begin on June 1, located next to the Municipal Liquor Store in Ellendale. The market runs every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Interested vendors should contact Dan Sorum at 688-0514.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir tickets remain
There are still some tickets available for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on June 20. We will leave the Ellendale School at 5:20 pm. Cost is $56 Please register with NRHEG Community Education by May 31.

LTO announces 2013 scholarship recipients
Little Theater of Owatonna is pleased to announce its 2013 Veta Alexander Little Theatre of Owatonna Scholarship winners. They include Andrew Malo, son of Kevin and Angie Malo; Katherine Schroepfer, daughter of Gerald and Mary Schroepfer; and Spencer Verteeg, song of Brent and Beth Svenby. All three are Owatonna High School seniors. These scholarship winners will be acknowledged at the Owatonna High School Academic and Scholarships Awards Night, Wednesday, May 29. Recipients will also be recognized on opening night of the LTO summer production, the thought-provoking musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, Thursday, June 20.
Albert Lea fireworks fundraiser May 31
The Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and KATE\KCPI radio are holding their annual Fireworks fundraiser on Friday May 31, 2013 beginning at 6 a.m. Chamber staff, KATE staff and volunteers will be standing on the corner of Broadway and Main collecting donations for the 4th of July fireworks display. The goal for the 4th of July fireworks fundraiser is $16,000. If you are unable to stop by and would still like to make a donation, there will be buckets placed at the following businesses throughout the county:
