Cancer support group to meet February 25
Jackie Pederson, LSW will speak at Mayo Clinic Health System’s Cancer Support Group meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, February 25, in Room 20 on the lower level of the medical center in Albert Lea. The group strives to provide support, hope and friendship to the cancer family: patient, caregivers, family members and all those touched by cancer. Have Breakfast with a Farmer February 27
You are invited to Breakfast with a Farmer (formerly Food Check Out Day Breakfast). It will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at the Waseca HyVee. It will begin at 6:30 a.m. and last until 9 a.m. The menu will be scrambled eggs, ham, toast, fresh fruit and milk. February is Food Awareness Month. Hope you can attend!
Grief support services to begin February 28
Mayo Clinic Health System’s Hospice department will offer a Grief Support Series beginning Feb. 28 through April 4. The series will meet each Thursday from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. at Kiester City Hall located at 116 North Main Street, Kiester. This mutual-help series provides emotional support and shares practical help within in a supportive environment to achieve a better understanding of the grief process. The series is free and open to any adult who has experienced a loss through death. For more information and to register contact Hospice at 507-377-6393.
Food shelf fundraiser March 3 at Trinity
The New Richland Area Food Shelf will hold a Live Music Benefit on Sunday, March 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Admission is a free will or non-perishable food donation. Event emcee will be Al Batt and there will be a live auction. Supplemental funds by Thrivent for Lutherans, Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation, and MN FoodShare.
ECFE Bingo/Banana Split Night March 4
NRHEG ECFE will hold its spring kickoff in the Ellendale Cafeteria on Monday, March 4 with bingo and banana splits. All preschoolers and their parents in our district are welcome to attend. The event is free with prizes and banana splits. Activities start at 6:15 p.m. Registration materials will be available for our spring session which starts March 12. SC Humane Society fundraiser March 7
Steele County Humane Society will hold Pancakes for Pets and Silent Auction on Thursday, March 7 at the Owatonna Eagles Club. It will start at 4:30 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Advance tickets are available at all Steele County Vet Clinics; kids 5 and under eat free. Spay/neuter services set for March 9
On Saturday, March 9, 2013, the Steele County Humane Society, in conjunction with Kindest Cut, LLC, will offer low cost spay/neuter services for companion animals and free roaming, community outdoor cats (feral cats). These clinics fill up fast and space is limited so contact Kindest Cut today to pre-register (do not contact the humane society to pre-register).
Medical scholarships available
Naeve Hospital Auxiliary will award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea service area that have selected the medical field as their chosen vocation. All scholarships are provided on the basis of academic ability, leadership, commitment and character. Complete scholarship information and applications are available from counselors in area high schools or at the medical center. Applications must be returned to Kathy Leidal, Public Affairs, Mayo Clinic Health System, 404 W. Fountain St., Albert Lea, MN 56007 by March 13, 2013. Applications will be reviewed by the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Committee. Those receiving scholarships will be notified in late April.
