NRHEG vs. USC wrestling meet postponed

The NRHEG vs USC wrestling meet scheduled for Thursday, January 24th has been postponed until Saturday, February 9th at 12:00pm in New Richland.



John Christensen benefit set for Sunday

A benefit in memory of John Christensen is set for Sunday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ellendale Community Building. Everyone is welcome.

This will be a celebration held in memory of a wonderful man. A free-will donation will be collected for a scholarship for John’s son. Supplemental income provided by Thrivent Financial. For more information or to donate call Becky Lassahn at (507) 684-3040.


Pancake breakfast Sunday in Ellendale

First Lutheran Church of Ellendale is hosting a pancake breakfast Sunday, Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funds raised will go for youths going to the Colorado convention.


Summer Recreation meeting January 28

There will be a meeting for the 2013 Summer Rec Activities on Monday, January 28 in the Ellendale Media Center starting at 6:30 pm.

All parents, coaches, city council members and business sponsors are welcome to attend this meeting. Students in grades Pre-K through 4th grade are involved in summer rec. This meeting is for adults only.


Bloodmobile to visit New Richland Jan. 30

The New Richland Blood Drive will be held at the City Hall on Wednesday, January 30. Band’s Soup & Pie supper set for Feb. 1

The NRHEG High School Band’s annual Soup & Pie Supper is Friday, February 1st from 4:-7:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria during the girls’ basketball game against JWP.

Tickets are $6 in advance, $7 at the door, and can be purchased from any 8-12 grade band member.



Women’s Health Care Symposium Feb. 2

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The fifth annual “Women’s Health Care Symposium” is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 2 at Wedgewood Cove, 2200 W. 9th St., Albert Lea.

Matthew Camp, M.D., Plastic Surgery; Jodi Schulz, M.D., OB/GYN; Judy Sibilrud, nurse practitioner, General Surgery; and Alexandra Kloster, Albert Lea Tribune and Southern Minnesota Magazine columnist, are all scheduled to present.

Central Freeborn F.R.O.G. Party Feb. 9

There will be a F.R.O.G. Valentine’s Party held at Central Freeborn Lutheran Fellowship Hall. The party will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. 

At 6 p.m. there will be a Pop and Pizza Fellowship followed by Norwegian Bing with prizes at 7 p.m. Then at 8 p.m., ice cream with toppings will be served as well as a signing of valentines for Sheet-Ins. Finally at 9 p.m., there will be a drawing for door prizes. Cost will be $5 per person. Please bring a friend along with you! Bring a white elephant item or two for $1 table. Medical scholarships available

Naeve Hospital Auxiliary will award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea service area that have selected the medical field as their chosen vocation.

All scholarships are provided on the basis of academic ability, leadership, commitment and character. Complete scholarship information and applications are available from counselors in area high schools or at the medical center. Applications must be returned to Kathy Leidal, Public Affairs, Mayo Clinic Health System, 404 W. Fountain St., Albert Lea, MN  56007 by March 13, 2013.

Applications will be reviewed by the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Committee. Those receiving scholarships will be notified in late April.
