NRHEG Spelling Bee set for Wednesday

The NRHEG school spelling bee for grades 5-8 will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. in the New Richland varsity gym. Contestants from these grades will compete to represent NRHEG at the Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held Feb.12 in North Mankato. Family, friends, and the general public are all invited to attend the school bee. Contestants include:

• 5th grade: Morgan Styke, Kade Reese, Karter Koziolek, Jayna Domeier, Tiara Malakowsky, Mason Ferber.

• 6th grade: Alex Buckmeier, Aubrey Johnson, Jazzlyn Johnson, Sierra Johnson, Dalton Kraay, Hailey Stenzel.

• 7th grade: Lillian Bell, Solveig Stafford, Justin Mortenson, Ben Lewer, Katlyn Olsen, Randy Anhalt.

• 8th grade: Oakley Baker, Sam Prigge, Kallie Spooner, Maurya Johnson, Jill Jongbloedt, Steffen Lovelace.


Summer Recreation meeting January 28

There will be an informational meeting for coaches, parents, city council members and business owners involved in the 2013 Summer Recreation Program (T-ball, baseball and softball) for grades K-4.

This meeting is for adults only. We will discuss plans for the summer recreation program and how to proceed this year. Please attend this meeting to voice your concerns.

The meeting will be held on Monday, January 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the NRHEG Media Center in Ellendale. 


Bloodmobile to visit New Richland Jan. 30

The New Richland Blood Drive will be held at the City Hall on Wednesday, January 30. Women’s Health Care Symposium Feb. 2

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The fifth annual “Women’s Health Care Symposium” is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 2 at Wedgewood Cove, 2200 W. 9th St., Albert Lea.

Matthew Camp, M.D., Plastic Surgery; Jodi Schulz, M.D., OB/GYN; Judy Sibilrud, nurse practitioner, General Surgery; and Alexandra Kloster, Albert Lea Tribune and Southern Minnesota Magazine columnist, are all scheduled to present.

Central Freeborn F.R.O.G. Party Feb. 9

There will be a F.R.O.G. Valentine’s Party held at Central Freeborn Lutheran Fellowship Hall. The party will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. 

At 6 p.m. there will be a Pop and Pizza Fellowship followed by Norwegian Bing with prizes at 7 p.m. Then at 8 p.m., ice cream with toppings will be served as well as a signing of valentines for Sheet-Ins. Finally at 9 p.m., there will be a drawing for door prizes. Cost will be $5 per person. Please bring a friend along with you! Bring a white elephant item or two for $1 table.
