Geneva cooks up another cancer fund-raiser

Many people from the area have have done so much to support research in hopes of finding a cure for cancer.
Once again, the Geneva Cancer Committee, established in 1985, is asking for your help. It is everybody’s chance to come together to remember loved ones, inspire others and celebrate life while making a difference in the fight against cancer.
This inspired group of people would like to publish a cookbook that will include the favorite recipes of people in our area who are dedicated to this cause, and also from all those who have been touched by cancer.
The cookbook committee would like the people of our area to contribute recipes for a loved one they want to remember, or recipes to symbolize a future of freedom from cancer. They are asking people to submit 3-5 of their favorite recipes for this special cookbook.
These recipes could include favorite recipes you and your family enjoy and don't want to risk losing in the shuffle. They may be great dishes that Grandma used to make, family favorites, recipes you have used for special birthdays, anniversary and graduation parties or the holidays. They could also be recipes for wild game, some of which have been used for the Geneva Wild Game Feed, another cancer fundraiser.Once you have selected your favorite recipes, submit them by placing them on special forms available at several businesses in the Geneva area including Geneva Foods, Geneva Bar & Grill, Commerce Bank, Sorenson’s Appliance, Geneva Meats, Shaw’s Auto, Southern Minnesota Electric and Broskoff Structures.
Fill out the recipe forms by placing the recipe title on the form, as well as the name of the person who submitted it. Print recipes neatly using ink.
List all ingredients in order of use and directions. Include container sizes and directions for preparing the recipe in paragraph form — not in steps. Include the names of ingredients in the directions, e.g. "Combine flour and sugar." Do not use statements such as, "Combine the first three ingredients.” And of course, don’t forget baking temperatures as well as cooking, chilling, baking, and/or freezing times.
Include the category that your recipe fits into: Appetizers and Beverages; Soups and Salads; Vegetables and Side Dishes; Main Dishes; Breads and Rolls; Desserts; Cookies and Candy; This and That.
Any special recipe notes (other than the recipe title, contributor’s name, ingredients, directions and serving size) should be kept as a separate comment on the bottom of the form. Contributors are asked to be consistent with the spelling of their name for each recipe they contribute.
Once you have selected your favorite recipes and filled out the form, drop them off at any business previously mentioned or mail to the Geneva Cancer Committee at P.O. Box 209, Geneva, MN 56035.
Eligible entries are those who have or had connections to Geneva and our local area and desire to take part in this fundraiser for cancer.
These favorite "recipes from your heart" must be submitted to the Geneva Cancer Committee by the 1st of September.
The organizers of this new fundraising event for cancer are anticipating a great demand for this cookbook and want to make sure that they order enough books. They are currently taking orders.
Please indicate how many cookbooks you would like to order when you submit your recipes. The committee is estimating the cookbooks will sell for $10 and are hoping that they will arrive in Geneva before Christmas.
