I attended the concert in New Richland Saturday night. It was a nice party for Joan Olson and family. I’m grateful Finly’s Wings and New Richland Liquor are/were able to do it. The Blue Ringers also played an amazing show. For those who don’t know New Richland Liquor has officially been sold from Karl and Tammy Proehl to their kids and close friends. I have not sat down with them yet and honestly, I’m not quite sure how to. Whatever happens, I’m looking forward to it.
Sharon Eckert left me a very lovely voicemail this past week reminding her and Norman’s “extra hot pickles” were ready for pickup. I called her back and missed her on Monday. I’m hoping I make it over this week.
The summer is kind of flying by. We’re already through more than half of the fair season. Freeborn this week, and then Steele County right after that and poof. There went summer.
For those who don’t know I played for the Waseca Braves town baseball team this summer. I didn’t play a whole lot due to two reasons. The team is really good and I’ve been battling my own health stuff. That and the Canadian wildfire smoke doesn’t help much. Here’s hoping the smoke clears.
Oh, that’s right, this was a column about Senora Olson and the concert.
I had Joan as a teacher for two years, Spanish 1 and 2 and for a couple days, 3. After seeing the curriculum for Spanish 3 I decided I didn’t really need to actually learn how to speak Spanish. A requirement for that third year.
Her classes were among my favorites. Each class period was fun and exciting, and it seemed to me that everyone else seemed to enjoy the experience too. Something which made class all the more worthwhile. During Spanish 2, however, Joan was pregnant with what I believed to be child number six. Rachel Knudson subbed quite a bit when Joan was on maternity leave. A rather ironic point, considering Rachel was also written about in this week’s paper.
So what else is new?
Well I bought a new “used” car this week from one of my friends. It was a little bittersweet saying goodbye to my old Sunfire, a car I’ve had for more than five years. Many miles, and many memories were had in that vehicle. Here’s to many more in my new ride.
