Another week in quarantine, another three weeks added to our stay-at-home order. It appears Minnesotans are doing a good job cooperating, better than a lot of places in the country. Just about every day I hear Governor Walz come across our radio waves and in the paper and he will give the daily COVID-19 update.
It appears Minnesota is in good shape and predicted to have the capacity needed to handle the overabundance of medical care needed for victims of the COVID-19 virus. In fact, it appears the entire country is doing better than projected to this point.
I was watching the news the other night, and the President was speaking about our pandemic. He thanked the American people for doing a good job for containing this virus and gave us credit for “slowing the curve.” I then watched as pundits on the news debated, or rather, criticized our reactions to this virus. They said the country went too far. I disagree.
Some people argue we overreacted. Others argue we didn’t do enough, fast enough. Whether either of those remains to be true, I don’t think any of us will know for quite some time. All I am certain of, as were those pundits, is that everyone is important and worth keeping safe.
That said, it is time for my weekly rant of missing sports. This past week we got a little fix in the form of Wrestle Mania. It’s an event by WWE, and last year I watched it with some friends. This year I didn’t even bother watching. But it did give all the sports podcasters I listen to something to talk about. The UFC is even considering, or rather in the process of, purchasing a private island, so they can hold international fights.
The main topic of discussion among sports podcasters is this. Will this bring more notoriety to the UFC? My short answer: no. It may spark a little more interest during this absense of sports, but I don’t think it will bring in new fans. The people who like UFC will continue to and the people, like myself, who don’t enjoy watching people beat the crap out of each other, will not enjoy the UFC.
I hope everyone is finding a way to stay sane during these tough times and I would like to remind everyone that this, too, will, pass.
