This recent patch of unfortunate weather has kept most of us trapped in our homes over the last couple weeks. School was called off for nearly a week. Even the snow week festivities were pushed back. This weather bites. But it doesn’t all have to be bad.

Lately, due to our current conditions, I have spent much more time inside, trying to find ways keep myself occupied. The result being I’ve had more time to invest into some of my favorite online games. In doing so, I’ve reminded myself of all the time I spent playing video games growing up. It was a big part of my family. We may not realize it, but there are some, if not many, good aspects associated with video games.

I remember growing up, playing Mario Kart on our old GameCube. I remember Dad doing his darndest to find the “best” gaming console worthy of his investment. Of course it was the good ole cube that some of us remember. We spent hours playing games on that little thing. Our friends and family would all crowd around our tiny little T.V. we had back then, and take turns passing the controllers around after we lost a race. It was always a big challenge to try and hold onto your original characters. After all, we all knew Mario was faster than Luigi.

Some of the best memories of my childhood were the result of playing video games. Long lasting bonds of friendship resulted from those days, and we still, to this day, break out the old GameCube controllers to play at least once every couple of months. It never fails, the nestalgia will always be there and so will my gratitude for my father’s “research” into the best game console on the market.

Thought for the week: Nostalgia can come from anywhere, even when you least expect it.
