Seth Schaefer set to lead band department at NRHEG

Seth Schaefer, the district’s new band director, is not brand new to teaching. Originally from Oakes, North Dakota, Schaefer graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in Music Education and taught at West Fargo High School for 2 years before coming to NRHEG. “I was looking to move out of North Dakota, and after my interview, I saw how exciting and supportive this school is and I wanted to be a part of it. I am extremely excited to be a part of the NRHEG community and music team!” He currently resides in Waseca.
When asked about something important students will leave his classroom with, Schaefer replied, “A curiosity about music and the skills to think deeply about what they are hearing.” Schaefer also expects to “have a great time being at sporting events with the pep band, playing loud with the marching band (he plays both percussion and bass), and experiencing fun music with the concert bands.” He says making music with the students is his favorite part of the job.
When not in the classroom or at a band activity, Schaefer enjoys going to concerts. He says “Everybody knows that I am always at a concert and that my favorite band is New Found Glory.” And if someone gets him started, he could talk forever about both comics and scary movies. “I have been a fan since I was a little kid,” he says.
