Octogenarian Genie and I were reminiscing about people in our lifetime we have had the pleasure of knowing. The following are just some of those people.

A. Joel Martin: Joel was in a confirmation class of young people with Genie as the teacher. Joel as an employee of Sorenson’s Appliance and TV in Geneva, Minnesota helped us buy replacement appliances when we lost just about everything in our basement due to a flood. Joel also helped us in the replacement of kitchen appliances due to a kitchen fire.

Joel was a very common, likable man with the ability to please.

B. Marvin Wagner: Marvin was an all-around likable person. Mary and I went ice fishing on Mille Lacs Lake together, got caught in a blizzard while ice fishing on Mille Lacs Lake, had to stay in the fish house all day, all night until the next afternoon, waiting to be rescued.

Marv and I “played” at golf together.

Marv, spouse Leona, I and Genie went to the mountains above Sheridan, Wyoming, dancing at the Terp Ballroom in Austin, plus attending church together and hikes with their children and ours.

Even though Marv lost his sight due to an illness, his great outlook on life never wavered.

C. Sherri Rasmussen: Sherri was the kind of Albert Lea Council Member you could talk to and know she was listening.

Genie and I enjoyed seeing and visiting with her in her sporty little car at Big Island State Park by Albert Lea. She is leaving Albert Lea and is headed West. (Genie and I are certain the park critters will miss her too.)

Have you noticed the local TV station has added two things to their weather forecast? 1. “Uffda” as the highest humidity rating 2. “Alert” as a day to watch out for a Feller named “Alert.” I wonder if his last name is Thofson?

Do you know what is the name of the oldest restaurant in Albert Lea? If you said, “Elbow Room” you are right.

What do you think of the Minnesota Twins new baseball uniform?

The following is either true or false, I’ll leave it up to you to decide.

A farmer first, fisherman second, was convinced by his fellow Monday thru Friday working fisherman friends to let the farm work wait one Saturday in May and go fishing with them just Saturday. He finally bent and left late Friday night from his farm between New Richland and Hartland, even though he had about one more day of planting beans.

Saturday morning it started raining at Leech Lake where he was. He caught no fish and left for home Saturday night catching no fish.

Sunday and Monday the rains came at his farm. Tuesday morning he took his rod and reel out to his big pond on the farm and made a few casts. He caught a few old corn stocks!! His response, “Farm fishing is just as good as fishing at Leech Lake!!”
