It seems that Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Rural Albert Lea is a beehive of activity in addition to usual church services.

The most recent activity sponsored by the youth calling themselves “Whirlwind Wednesday” (due to most of their activities are on a Wednesday evening) was called “Let’s Horse Around.”

The activity began at the Sunday October 15th meeting at 4 p.m. at Central for a horse-drawn wagon ride to Gene and Diane Wangen’s cabin in the woods and back to the church.

The Youth  (under the helping adults Kris Wolff and Emily Vierus) decided this was a very special event so they invited adults. (Genie and I were two of the adults attending.) In total about 65 attended the special event with the roasting of hotdogs and s’mores.

Mamma Red Fox and her two babies were in charge of the Grounds Clean Up of Spilled Food Committee.

Another activity at Central is “Guess When” the date of the first one inch or more of snow is on the west side of the parking lot at Central. The winner gets a $20.00 bill. This activity is sponsored by F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely on God).

F.R.O.G. sponsors a Valentines event at Central with Valentines cards to Central and East shut-ins. The evening begins with pizza followed by Norwegian Bingo and concludes with ice cream with toppings. The planned date is Saturday, February 3, 2024 beginning at 6 p.m.

There are other activities in 2024 in the planning stage. For example: a buss trip to Lutheran Night at the Twins. The Fall Soup and Pie Supper (Probably Monday, September 16, 2024). A bus trip followed by a meal to Church Basement Ladies or a bus trip to Christmas By the Lake with a meal at Wok ‘n’ Roll in Albert Lea afterwards.

A sobering statistic as per health versus age statistics in the U.S.: One in four over age 85 have dementia. (I don’t believe it. I think it’s more like one in four living over 85 don’t have dementia.)

Genie and I received a special invite in the mail from a feller named O.J. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cass Lake, Minnesota. It seems he wants Genie to show him how to get the right purple potato to make purple lefse. His bribe is if Genie helps him, she will get a free package of lefse to share with me. Genie and I said yes.

Genie and I toured the field of sunflowers by Manchester, MN. As per other years, it was great. Thanks to those involved.

It’s “Time” to get ready for a change in time the 5th of November.

Were you ready for spooks and goblins?

Join me in honoring veterans by displaying a green light November 6-12. Better yet, all of November.

As you drive in and out of Myre-Big Island State Park in Albert Lea, honk three times – one for each of her 11 years as the Greeter. Cyndy Schmidt, you’re the best!!
