How about starting this column out with short shorts?
1. Thanks to you, the reader, for the 20+ years of my enjoyment in writing this column.
2. Mr. Twins Baseball of Albert Lea, Brad Bjerke, helped carry out the American flag at the First Game of the Play-Offs at Target Field. Brad promised the Twins would try again next year!!
3. Genie and I both agreed after 60 years on 9-28-23 to go for 61.
4. The last Hummer of 2023 stopped art our feeder 10-2-23.
4. Scared opossums don’t play dead. They become over-excited and pass out (per November Reader’s Digest).
5. Beginning this winter some Minnesota raised beef will begin featuring a green and white label from the Audubon Society that says just that. The Audubon Society is hoping to create consumer demand for bird-friendly ranching practices. (This was mentioned on Minnesota Public Radio News!!)
If you have noticed the way too many errors in this column as you’re reading it, this is how the errors happen:
I hand-print each weekly column. After running the hand printed column by Genie (my proofreader) for corrections, and then mailing the weekly copy to the office of the Star Eagle newspaper in New Richland, an employ must get the handwritten copy ready for print.
With my not-the-most-readable printing and not the best use of the English language, let alone spelling problems, the weekly new column has way too many errors too often.
I ask the employee to proofread the to-be-sent-to-the-press column just before being printed. Even so boo-boos occur in that week’s column of the Star Eagle.
Were you aware the only place to find night crawlers in Albert Lea was the imported ones from out of state at the local shop this summer?
6. A young sounding voice on my cell phone identified himself as my grandson. I asked if it was Billy. The answer was yes. I replied, “I don’t have a grandson named Billy.” The phone went “click.”
7. The Governor’s pheasant hunting opener by Owatonna, Minnesota in October of 2023 was a success. Next year 10-12-24 will be in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.
Column Comments:
1. To err is human, to forgive divine.
2. It’s what is meant in each column that counts, not how it is said or the correct use of the English language.
3. UFF-DA (IFF-DA) is a great Norwegian word used to describe a thing as being either “good” or “bad.”
4. The Star Eagle employees and I accept your use of the word UFF-DA in regards to the result of the “Fact or Fiction” weekly column.
5. In closing, I say, “UFF-DA.”
