Per the local weatherman on channel 6 TV out of Austin, Minnesota, the forecast was worse than hot. The weather forecasting people have a rating scale as to the severity of their prediction. The warmest weather forecast was for the 26th of July thru the 1st few days in August.

Their weather scale is divided according to the severity of the forecast with “UFFDA” being the most severe. Thursday, July 27, 2023 the forecast was for the hottest day of the year, thus, an “UFFDA” rating. This forecast was for the entire state of Minnesota plus the neighboring states  (North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan).

Their forecast was right on with July 27 being the hottest day of the year 2023 (so far). In most locations the felt-like temperature was in excess of 100 degrees. In many locations the actual temperature was in excess of 100 degrees.

Many late night comedians referred to the temp as “hotter than Hell.” This in turn caused many people to wonder about their ending in life on earth as to their final destination. This in turn has led to more interest in Heaven and Christianity as to their final destination.

As to this spell of hot weather one might say “Christianity is back in the minds of many who “strayed.”

This hot spell has created a major increase in water temperatures in all bodies of water, especially oceans and lakes.

The major concern in Minnesota is the fishing industry. There is concern the water temperature will be too warm for the spawning of fish.

The being so hot in International Falls, Minnesota (the Ice Box of the Nation) has major concern for all those connected to the fishing industry. The concern is all the Minnesota lakes may not freeze enough to allow ice fishing.

In other words, no income related to ice fishing.

Readers, could something like this happen? I don’t mean this column to be “Doom and Gloom,” so I’m referring you to the “Apocalypse” in the Bible.

On the brighter side of our great outdoor related activities:

A. The fifth Minnesota governor’s pheasant hunting will be held in Steele County (Owatonna) October 13-14, 2023.

B. Central Freeborn Lutheran Church will hold their annual Soup and Dessert Supper Monday, September 18, 2023 at Central Rural Albert Lea.
