As a former NRA (National Riflemen’s Association) member and having been to their ranch in New Mexico I feel I must express my opinion of the current use of guns t kill. The killings are not the fault of the NRA.
In my opinion the leadership of the NRA must get involved in the leading of their members. This sitting back and saying “Guns don’t kill, people do.” is not the solution for the NRA leaders to sit on their duffs and do nothing.
As many of you know, I am a recycling nut. I firmly believe that if you give to the U.S. consumer a reason to recycle, consumers will do so.
What are some of the reasons to recycle?
A. A return value on the object being recycled (like a deposit or refund on your next purchase of that same article). Neighboring states like Michigan giving 10¢ back on aluminum cans and bottles are examples.
B. A special use in the article being recycled in manufacturing something else.
C. Helping somebody or some cause like cans to Habitat for Humanity or pop tops to Ronald McDonald’s House.
D. Some household items given to Salvation Army or to the E.F. Foundation to pick up at the end of your driveway, or other good will organizations.
E. The scrap metals processing along with aluminum cans business centers like the one along Highway 13 south of New Richland. (Now you know where to take that scrap iron for cash.)
F. The No Littering law fine.
G. Peer pressure to recycle, for example a town on New Jersey has one day of the week for recycling pick up and another day for garbage pick up. On the garbage day an employee goes down the street ahead of the garbage truck randomly checking the garbage can. If the same can is found to contain recycling again, the garbage will not be picked up. The end result the neighbors will look upon that guilty person ass a “baddie.” No person wants to tbe a baddie, thus peer pressure makes most people comply.
An interesting fact: according to a customer survey, most people feel better when they recycle, yet 63 percent confess to not recycling on a regular basis.

A. Genie was the convener for the Lutheran Ladies at their annual meeting held at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. I asked her when she came home after the meeting, “How did it go?” She replied, “Thanks to the convener before me it worked very smoothly.” I asked “Who was that?” Her reply was “Gail Ottesen from Delevan.” (Readers, Gail is one of the staff of Sorenson Appliance and TV clan in Geneva).
B. Ask any of the younger students of NRHEG School in Ellendale “What did you learn from the TV-6 weathermen when they performed at your school?” Their faces willllight up ass they bubble with excitement in their reply.
C. My reply to the nice warm weather. It’s going to be like thiss until I’m deer hunting November 4th!!
