The world is moving too fast for this old Norwegian. Farm auctions are now online. (Matt Maring auction company conducted an online only auction on Saturday April 25.)
I find something I want to mention in this column. By the time I get it ready to write, about, a week has gone by. I miss the Monday deadline and another week goes by before you read the column. Thus, it is three weeks after the actual event as per the online farm auction above.
Regarding the time going by, the great editor of this paper Eli Lutgens, steps up to the plate with his comment. “Don’t sweat the small stuff; all stuff is small stuff!”
Ellendale, Minnesota is a cold town. How do I know? Because in April there were icicles hanging from the Ellendale sign. I refer you to the town council for corrective measures taken by them.
I bet the dictator of North Korea can be found asking his U.S. buddy Dennis Rodman.
This has been a typical April. We’ve had measurable snow three times. Our tulips were up and in bloom before May 1st. I moved dandelions in full bloom to the Albert Lea Landfill. Robins, bluebirds, and wrens – even a wren, singing every morning. Three cottontail rabbits playing hide and seek under the neighbor’s shed. We paid the IRS just on time.
For a non-typical April, going to any medical facility was a big change. For example: Answering a bunch of questions, having your temperature checked, getting a colored sticker to wear telling everybody what day of the week it is and sitting all alone. My comment, “Uffda.”
Our together outing this past week was getting prescriptions renewed with curbside service, groceries, drive through food and on to Big Island State Park to eat as we watched a groundhog munch on green grass. (Genie purchased groceries by herself as HyVee requests only one person shopping.) We saw deer, pelicans, ducks, geese, three tom turkeys trying to get the attention of one hen turkey – they failed!! With binoculars we watched an adult bald eagle tear meat off a kill and feed it to a baby in the nest. (A second bald eagle watched.)
May 16, 2020 is the 19th anniversary of this column. ‘Twas then I wrote, “Fishing opener at Beaver Lake was very good for the fish and deer. There were nine boats of 19 people with one person apparently out of place in his blaze orange. Totals for Saturday were one fish, no deer and 19 cold and wet people.”
It is said, “History repeats itself.” In 1918 the Spanish influenza hit Albert Lea and the U.S. In 1920 it returned. In 2020 the coronavirus hit Albert Lea and the U.S. Will history repeat itself??
Vice President Pence visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Apparently he didn’t know about, ”When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” (Everyone wore a mask except him.)
Someone suggested drinking disinfectant to kill the coronavirus. Do not do this!
In conclusion, this writer is leaning to becoming a former Republican if either Trump or Pence are on the Republican Ticket this November.
