This is another running-of-the-words column. The way I figure it, there will be something you will like and something you will not like!

Behind every good man there is an even better woman. These words were spoken to me as I was in the process of buying a dozen roses for Genie on her birthday. The lady customer relations person at Addie’s Floral and Gifts in Albert Lea told me she was the CEO of one of my fellow columnists at the Star Eagle newspaper in New Richland. She challenged me to figure out what columnist she was the CEO for. I like a challenge, so I tried but failed on my first attempt. She laughed at my wrong guess as she told me Mark Bernard was the answer.

Something to think about: “Noah was a brave man to sail in a wooden boat with two termites.

I must give credit to a pair of humming birds. Their nest blew down twice and the third nest survived. They received two babies (one male, one female). All four are regulars at our feeders.

What was the most popular drive-in this summer in the Albert Lea area? If you said Eaton’s Ice Cream Drive-In on Bridge St. in Albert Lea, you’re absolutely right.

Ben was rejected from medical school, Jerry’s pottery wasn’t selling, so they became successful in selling Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Genie’s favorite ice cream is Phis Phood, made by, you’re right, Ben and Jerry’s. We have been to their store in Burlington, Vermont. Many days there is a line outside waiting to get in during the summer.

Are you a “books are fun” person? If so, attend the Hospital Auxiliary Book Sale Sept. 18 and 19 in the lower level of the hospital in Albert Lea.

On my morning walk around Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, I was brought up to date on the meaning of a stop sign. I observed an Albert Lea school bus do a moving stop at a stop sign!

The same morning, I saw an Albert Lea Park and Rec vehicle parked by a “no parking” sign. I guess they have privileged parking!

Do you know where the last pay phone is in the NRHEG area? If you said at the pool hall in Geneva, you’re wrong. It’s in Dad’s Good Stuff in downtown New Richland, along with many other no-longer-used items.

All you veterans, for your information, Kwik Trip in Minnesota and Kwik Star in Iowa are giving away 4c off per gallon of gas you purchase with identification.

Have you noticed how the tree leaves are turning? Orange you glad?

For your information, bubble wrap will help keep your can of Coke cool longer.

What is the current “thing” for Minnesota boy and girl teenagers? The answer is trap shooting. There are now 324 school teams in Minnesota, with a total of about 12,000 shooters and growing rapidly. An interesting thing is the sport is almost injury-free.

In case you’re wondering, this column is entirely fact!
