Another “running of the words” column about many things, all fact or fiction.
According to Ripley’s Believe it or Not, your right ear does a better job of listening to speech than your left ear. Do you suppose that is why, when driving a vehicle, the driver sits on the left?
It’s time to get ready to plant potatoes on Good Friday. It was a family tradition for Genie’s dad and grandfather. Genie planted three whole potatoes in a big bucket of dirt last year on Good Friday in our garage. She harvested enough for a meal of potatoes for us.
Robins, robins, robins everywhere—three snows on her back and momma robin will be nesting.
Barbie (the doll) is 60 years old this year.
Good news for the walleye fishermen this opener, bad news for the walleye between 21 and 23 inches or over 28 inches: from the May 11 opener through May 31 at Mille Lacs Lake, anglers can keep one. After that it is catch-and-release only during the soft water season.
How about the length of daylight each day? (More than 12 hours.) Do you suppose daylight savings deserves credit for this?
In case you’re wondering how intelligent fish are, I submit to you the fact that most of the fish in Fountain Lake moved to where the lake had been dredged. It seems dredging turned up a lot of bugs for fish food.
It was a rather strange Minnesota Boys’ Basketball Tournament this March—no traditional snowstorms.
A plea for magazines at the Mayo medical complex in Albert Lea: please leave your slightly used magazines with the person on duty as you enter. A volunteer will place them for reading by those using the facility. (I am one of the volunteers.)
It’s officially spring. How do I know? Because I’m now walking about two-three miles per day on the east and north side of Fountain Lake versus riding a stationary bicycle 25 miles per day inside. (Dan gave me the bicycle 33 years ago—it now has 63,950 miles.)
It’s Twins time! All of the games will be televised on FSN except May 1 on ESPN. The first game was Thursday, March 28 against Cleveland in Minnesota. Of the first 17 games, the Twins are scheduled to be playing ten at home in an outdoor stadium. (Sorry, but I don’t have enough money to enclose the stadium!) The prediction is for the Twins to finish second this year behind Cleveland.
F.R.O.G., the outreach mission from Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, will be taking a bus to Lutheran Night at the Twins on Monday, August 5. Chairs of F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely on God) are Wayne and Bev Indrelie and Genie and I. Watch for further details.
Last but not least, Genie was elected the lay female nominating committee member for the Blue Earth River Conference held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Would you believe Minnesota winter weather caused the assembly to be cancelled three times before it was finally held? My job was to taste test all the pre-meeting goodies.
