This is another “running of the words” column. Some will be fact, some will be fiction – you decide.

Sam Christensen, a student at NRHEG, and I are walking around with sad faces. We found out that our Country Western friend KQAQ is leaving us in the near future. It is estimated there will be a riding off in the sunset about September 1, 2018.

Do you know how long old buddy the New Richland-Hartland- Ellendale-Geneva Star Eagle has been serving us, its great readers? (The name has changed over the years while the serving us the readers has always been great.) The answer in Roman Numerals is CXXLII years and counting.

How about the new columnist for the Star Eagle! He is an honor student in college and writes like a pro. His name is Eli Lutgens and he writes like an easy-to-read column. Eli, welcome aboard. P.S. Do you suppose any of his ability is inherited?

Monday May 7th, 2018 was declared by the Ag Industry as the day when more field-work was accomplished in one day than any other day in the history of Minnesota. One radio commentator, well known in the farm industry, said, “Every tractor was in the field that could find a driver.” Being on the road that day, I agree with the local preacher that said, “and that is most certainly true.”

I’ve been seeing a red car with dents in the driver’s side rear back fender. There is a sticker on the dents that reads, “the bend.” So far, I’ve only seen the car in the area around The Bend in the Road on Highway 13 by Manchester.

Did you know that when driving to all parts of Minnesota you need not only a driver’s license but also a valid passport. Yes, the Northwest angle is the reason.

Tis the season when you have to take a new route when going by car to your southern Minnesota destination. I will defy you to go from Albert Lea to Mankato your old way. A classic example is going from west of Ellendale via Highway 30 (The old way) to Waseca. You will drive back to Ellendale the same route you started out. There is a common road sign for this called detour.

Did you know if you waited to order at the DQ in Albert Lea your chances of seeing a celebrity from Geneva are excellent? If you’re lucky, the celebrity just might be Cassie Hill.

On Mother’s Day I got to treat a princess and a mother to a buffet lunch. The princess was from Reader’s Theater, “The princess and the Dragon,” as performed by Young at Heart seniors to kindergarten through third graders at all the schools in Albert Lea. In case you’re wondering the princess and mother were the same person, namely Genie.
