Suggested headline: History repeats itself
When does one say, “enough is enough”? In asking myself that tough question, I’ve decided to keep on writing this column as long as I’m able.
The same answer to being co-chair of F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely on God—an outreach mission of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church).
In the spring of 2002, I wrote my first Fact or Fiction column. In 1993, I became co-chair of F.R.O.G., along with Genie. Karen and Darryl Flim were our co-chairs. Bev and Wayne Indrelie became co-chairs in 2012.
You refer to a female Colonel Sanders as…? “Reba,” that’s who!
In a business establishment just across the border in Iowa, I noticed a cigarette vending machine. The price was $10 per pack for all brands. That comes out to be 50c every time you light up. To me, at that point, you’re not just blowing smoke; you’re blowing dollars.
Did you know that when his buddy “Waylan” gained sobriety, Willie cut off his braids? The braids were sold for $57,000.
Start thinking about a May 1st basket for that special one.
This is the time of the year for cabin fever. Beware, as it is very, very contagious. It is known to have struck the same person more than once in a short period of time. It has even been known to strike some members of a family and no other members of the same family.
It is highly recommended that those people susceptible to cabin fever stay away from the smell of fresh-turned dirt and gardening. It has even been claimed that the user of red equipment is less likely to have cabin fever than the user of green equipment (supposedly green is the color that most represents the smell of earth).
The best way to combat cabin fever in this area is two weeks of temperature in the 70s and 80s outside.
Genie and I are firm believers in “history repeats itself.” On Saturday, March 16, 2013, we attended the Class AA Girls’ Basketball Championship game at the Target Center in Minneapolis. NRHEG girls’ basketball team beat Braham 60-59 in a thriller. Carlie Wagner and the rest of her great teammates played the greatest basketball game Genie and I have ever seen in person.
Friday afternoon, March 2, 2018, Genie and I watched on TV the Minnesota girls’ basketball team defeat the Iowa girls 90-89. It was a thriller—both of us agreed it was the greatest game we’ve ever seen on TV. Carlie Wagner and her great teammates were a scoring machine.
Why do Genie and I say that history repeats itself? Because in both games:
1. The outcome was in question until the end.
2. The difference was one point.
3. Carlie Wagner scored the most points.
4. The team we were pulling for won.
